A recent report from eMarketer revealed that the number of US mobile messaging app users will reach 149.8 million in 2018, with that figure growing to 171.3 million by 2022.

According to Statista, Facebook Messenger is the most popular mobile messaging app in the country, with 110.95 million monthly active users as of July 2018. Snapchat ranked second with 52.09 million users, and WhatsApp at third with 20.94 million active U.S. users.

Other popular mobile messaging apps in the country include Google Hangouts, Messenger by Google, GroupMe, Discord, Kik, Skype, Line, and Telegram.

While WhatsApp is not the most popular messaging app in the country, it is fast gaining traction among US mobile users. According to Statista, WhatsApp users in the US are expected to grow from 16.2 million in 2015 to 25.6 million in 2021.


According to eMarketer, 64.1% of mobile phone internet users in Western Europe use mobile messaging apps in 2017.
