WhatsApp Business allows a user to register with a landline number. The registration process includes entering a 6-digit PIN code sent as an SMS to the landline by WhatsApp.

For landline numbers which cannot receive SMS, the user can opt to receive the PIN code via phone call.

This guide will help you to register the WhatsApp Business app with a landline number in 3 scenarios:

  1. The landline is nearby and can receive SMS
  2. The landline is nearby and cannot receive SMS
  3. The landline is not nearby. We will use call forwarding or the landline’s voicemail.

Install the app from Google Play or Apple Store and follow the instructions below:

Tap AGREE AND CONTINUE

Tap USE A DIFFERENT NUMBER

Enter the landline number and tap NEXT

Tap OK

  1. The landline is nearby and can receive SMS? Continue here.
  2. The landline is nearby and can’t receive SMS? Continue here.
  3. The landline is not nearby? Continue here.

1.  The landline is nearby and can receive SMS

Enter the PIN code received as SMS

2.   The landline is nearby and can’t receive SMS

Wait for the Call me timer to expire and then tap Call me.
WhatsApp will call your landline and play a recorded message with your PIN  code.
Enter the PIN code.

3. The landline is not nearby

There are two ways to get the PIN code from a remote landline:

  1. Call forwarding. See your carrier’s instructions
  2. Voicemail:

You can utilize the landline’s voicemail to get the recorded message left by WhatsApp. The message is 30 seconds long and repeats the 6 digits PIN code 4 times before disconnecting the call.

English language example. “Your verification code is xxxxxx, your verification code is xxxxxx, your verification code is xxxxxx, your verification code is xxxxxx”

The WhatsApp PIN code readout will begin once the call is picked up by the voicemail system. The readout will not wait for the voicemail greeting message to end.

Wait for the Call me timer to expire and tap Call me.

WhatsApp will call your landline and leave a recorded message with your PIN  code on your landline’s voicemail.

Wait for several minutes and retrieve the message from your voice mail. Enter the PIN code.

Note:

In case the recorded message ended before you can hear all 6-digits, you should shorten your greeting.

If your greeting is longer than 15 seconds, we recommend shortening your greeting message and taping Call me again.

Before you start messaging, connect to our WhatsApp Cloud service (See our guide).

Troubleshooting

Note: WhatsApp will allow three Call me retries or three Resend SMS. After attempted unsuccessful retries, you might need to wait for a few hours before you can try again.
