The webinar discussed how regulated entities in the financial sector can archive the mobile messages extensively used by professionals to communicate with their colleagues and clients. The webinar was hosted by Global Relay’s Vice President for Compliance Supervision Don McElligott, joined by Gil Shapira, TeleMessage’s Vice President for Business Development.

Mr. Shapira started his presentation by explaining the growing importance of archiving mobile SMS, emphasizing the shift from desktop-based communication platforms to mobile communication tools such as texting and instant messaging of corporate employees. With text messaging, broker-dealers and wealth managers are now able to change work-related materials or even process transactions and close deals with their prospects and customers.

Mr. Shapira also highlighted the increasing non-compliance risks that financial companies face for not archiving mobile texts. From multinational banks such as Deutsche Bank to much smaller financial institutions, Mr. Shapira mentioned that many companies had been fined and penalized by regulators throughout the years for not capturing and retaining the mobile text of their employees. Such an increase in risks explains why financial companies should have a mobile archiving solution in place that can capture and retain text messages of their employees – regardless of the ownership, platform, or model of the mobile device.

Mr. McElligot then demonstrated how TeleMessage archiving solution works within the Global Relay platform. Using the Global Relay dashboard, companies can search archived text messages of their employees, as well as identify the TeleMessage thread ID so the system user can find the full conversation between employees. With this, companies can understand the full context of the message of their employees, which is crucial during regulatory investigations and eDiscovery.
