Hurricane Harvey hit the Houston area on August 25. It destroyed thousands of homes and business, and claimed the life of 71 people – and taught us many lessons.  Among these lessons is that robust communication systems are vital to saving lives.

As flood waters rose, victims of Hurricane Harvey didn’t just overwhelm 911 call centers to seek help. They also used their mobile devices to connect to social media sites, update their loved ones and seek information and assistance.

People rely on their mobile device to keep in touch with their loved ones. However, the ‘point of need’ can also apply to when a disaster strikes and puts the whole community at risk. Mobile devices also serve as a lifeline medium to communicate with colleagues, family members, and friends before, during, and after a disaster strikes.

Here are the key mobile take-aways from Hurricane Harvey.
