30 November, 2004 - Rogers Wireless, the leading wireless carrier in
Canada, today announced the launch of TXT 2 Landline service. Thanks to a
complete, premium messaging application provided by TeleMessage, Rogers
Wireless is the first Canadian wireless carrier to provide customers with the
ability to send text messages to landline phones anywhere in Canada and the
Continental US. The text messages are converted to voice and can be delivered
in English or French.
"Text messaging is a non-intrusive method of communication which has
exploded in popularity," said Raj Doshi, Vice President, Product and Hardware
Management, Rogers Wireless. "But not everyone has access to a text messaging
device or is able to communicate in text. Rogers Wireless TXT 2 Landline
service enables young customers to connect discreetly with their parents,
couples to stay connected throughout the day, professionals to communicate
outside from within meetings, and the visually impaired to communicate with
friends and colleagues who use Text Messaging. We're pleased to further
enhance our customers' ability to stay connected to the people that matter
most."
Rogers Wireless TXT 2 Landline service converts text messages into voice
format for delivery to landline phones. When a TXT 2 Landline call is
answered, an automated voice system delivers the message, and provides the
wireless phone number of the message sender. If the recipient has Call Display
service, the wireless phone number of the message sender will appear. The
recipient is then able to replay the message, send a voice message reply to
the original sender, or terminate the call.
Meanwhile, the mobile user (original sender) will receive a confirmation
text message advising that their message has been successfully delivered,
whether it was delivered to an answering system or a live person, and whether
a voice reply was sent back. If a reply was sent, the mobile user can call
into a unique telephone number to listen to the response.
For a limited time, Rogers Wireless customers can send TXT 2 Landline
messages at the same cost as a regular text message. Starting April 1, 2005,
customers will be charged an additional $0.25 per TXT 2 Landline message.
